Jon Heyman writes about Future FAs Bay and Holliday. He says he
asked an "Unnamed GM" and "Unnamed Agent" what they thought the two 30-
somthing LF would get this off season....he also put his own
prediction in there.

Matt Holliday:
Agent: $147 million, 7 years.
GM: $80 million, 5 years.
Heyman: $120 million, 7 years.

Jason Bay:
Agent: $147 million, 7 years.
GM: $60 million, 4 years.
Heyman: $80 million, 5 years.

It should be noted that Heyman is known for breaking a lot of stories
about Boras clients...but the agent is still 'Unknown"

Both are saying $147, 7 years because they know the Yankees will be
looking for a power-hitting left fielder this off season and will bid
ridiculously higher than anybody else; much like they did for
Teixeira, Sabathia, and Burnett. The amazing thing about these
signings was not just that they outbid everyone else, it was just how
much more than the second highest bidder. For CC, it was $60 million
more than the Brewers/Angels, for Burnett, nobody else had bid yet and
they still went that high, and of course, for Teixeira, they were $16
million more than the Red Sox.

I just hope the Red Sox have learned something from these previous dealings.
Make your drop dead, take it or leave it, offer right off the bat. Give
them a firm deadline (like 24 hours...really) and if they refuse, move on to
plan B immediately. You don't see NY allowing these things to become
protracted. Without someone to bid up the price, they won't be getting the
inflated deal. Threaten to walk and the agent should balk about playing
that game. If he doesn't. Screw it. Find someone else. I like Bay. A
lot. But if they play that way, he's good as gone anyway. He's not THAT
indispensible. I also wonder how he'll take to NY and that big left field.

If we could offload JD drew for some prospects to somebody in the NL,
then I'd happily give Bay or Holliday their huge payday for $147
million @ 7 or 8 years. But we're dealing in reality, and J.Bay's not
going to get that much $$$ in his wildest dreams. On the other hand, I
wouldn't be surprised to see somebody pony up the dough(over $120
million) for Holliday's services.
