Sounds good. Until you hear what it would take to get either guy.

I'd rather they pay whatever it takes to either re-sign Bay or sign
Holliday. Everyone is going to want pitching...and a lot of it. We saw
this year (again) how valuable it is to have a surplus of it.

According to Cot's Contracts...a source I have found to be very
reliable...the Red Sox payroll is dropping from $122.6M to around $76M next
year. That leaves them with a lot of room to add payroll.
Furthermore...the following year, it drops to 43.5M...at this time anyway.
They can afford to pay a guy like this. Of course they have to plan and
budget for raises to their young core...but at first glance it sure looks
very doable.

Chone Figgins is also a FA too, and he's a Yankee killer. Mabye I'd
offer him $5-7.5 million to be a utility infielder (but he would get
lots of playing time at 3B/2B and even SS). But, it would take 4 or 5
years probably to pry him away from the Angels, who are probably going
to make a considerable offer to him. About Hanley Ramirez, I'd give
away a lot of prosepcts for him, he's the kind of five tool SS that
only comes once in a lifetime, but if the Marlins are getting a new
stadium (which means a lot more revenue) then they might just keep
Hanley and his lucrative contract. Also, one more note about Cot's
Contracts, that site is indispensable too me, and probably lots of
other baseball fans.

Ramirez has a spot.....where would we play Adrian Gonzalez? (with due
respect to Lou Gorman)

I'm a big fan of Figgins too. Another guy in that class is Ty
Wigginton...though he's got a year on his contract. A bit more power...less
speed...but a very versatile guy.
