From: HTP on 20 Apr 2010 16:50 but i've wondered if the reds recent struggles arent tied in part to the flu-like that i hear is going around. Brennamen alluded to it on a broadcast and sounded like he had something himself. I did read that Votto missed a game because of it. Other teams have affected players also, i'm sure. USA_Today says that Matt Holiday was in a recent 0-16 slump while battling flu-like symptoms. Hald the Cardnial lineup is struggling at the plate but they continue to get great pitching. Perhaps the Reds are a bit harder hit than other clubs. Anyway, the real downer on the squad has been the starting pitching, because we knew the offense wouldnt be so great anyway. I havent heard of any of the pitchers being under the weather, but there are varying degrees.
From: john smith on 20 Apr 2010 18:37 Two weeks into the season and the starting pitching has been pretty bad in almost every start. Through 13 games I am yet to see an outstanding effort or performance by any starting pitching. It is far too early to make any predictions yet. But I am interested to see how his team responds to a Dodger team that has pretty much owned them over the past 5 years. Pretty much the only positive I see so far is Bruce isn't looking as bad as he did in the past. It is pretty pathetic when you look at a player who is hitting under .200 and that is your positive. You could say Cordero is a positive, ok ... maybe You might also point to Leake as a possible upside player. Aside from that, Red's fans might have to wait for Chapman to have anything to cheer about. I heard he hit 100 on the gun with numerous pitchers thus far struggling a little with his control. I don't see how much longer you keep a southpaw who throws 100 mph down in AAA..

It would do little good to use him and have him get a severe arm injury. <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Fidrych> -- Remove blown from email address to reply.

He is pitching in the lower leagues isnt he? How could he hurt anymore by throwing 100MPH in the minors or 100 in the bigs!
From: john smith on 20 Apr 2010 21:01 It is a wonder what home cooking and chicken soup will do for an offense. Everyone is hitting but the human out machine Stubbs. I guess that flu bug disappeared overnight.....
