They blow this game, they should pack it up. So the Reds go into the 9th tonight with a four-run lead, Rhodes, who got the last two outs of the seventh on Ks, gets the first out, and then Masset comes in...and the way he's been pitching this year, my gut just kind-a went, "Uh-oh." But, hey...they have a four-run lead, they should be able to hold the lead, yes? No: Single, double, two-run single, three-run homer, a K and then a walk puts the go-ahead run aboard for the Dodgers. Here comes Lincoln, and I can't even quote Thom Brennaman and say "Mike Lincoln...this game's about to go into the shitter" because they just blew a four-run lead in the ninth at home, we're already so far down in the shitter we can't even see where the paper roll hangs! Bottom of the ninth, one out, Bruce walks, and one out later Hernandez walks. That brings up Janish who Baker double-switched with Lincoln when he relieved masset. Great, just who I want up there with the game possibly on the liner, the guy who comes into the game with a career .208 BA. Well, surprise, bloop single to left and two runs score. Cordero gets a save opportunity. Blake flies to right. DeWitt falls in the hole 1-2, works the count full, then wastes the effort by looking at strike three. Martin swings and misses and this one belongs to the Reds. Five-game losing streak snapped, homestand starts on a winning note, Rolen went 3-for-4, and the Reds gained a game on the Cubs and the Pirates, both of which lost today. So why the hell am I madder than a wet hen? JK |
