From: John Kasupski on 8 Jul 2010 19:18 Somehow, I knew it was coming. In his first at-bat against Charlie Manuel's Phillies since being snubbed for the All-Start game, Joey Votto deposits...I think it was a 3-1 pitch...into center for his 22nd homer and 60th RBI of the year. Reds lead, 1-0. JK

Reds lead, 1-0. BTW, Joey won the All-Star Final Vote. Led from start to finish. He's in. He was only the second player in the top five in HR and BA to not be named to an All-Star Team since 1957 (Boog Powell 1966). JK

He didn't have any successful steals at all in '66, He did get caught stealing four times, but for all I know those may have been on busted hit-and-run or bunt attempts where the batter didn't make contact. Boog only had 7 steals in a season once in his career, in 1968. He also had one other season when he stole 4 (1972), and those were the only years where he stole more than one. OK, back to Red-Phillies. This game is getting weird, Reds tie it in the top of the eighth, Phillies go up again by one in the bottom of the inning, Reds tie it again in the top of the ninth, with Votto scoring the tying run, and now Bray is out there trying to force extra innings. Bray comes out dealing, strikes out the left-handed Ibanez and Howard, both swinging Ks. Instead of leaving him in there to finish the job, Dusty gets Tony LaRussa Disease and brings in right-hander Ondrusek to pitch to Werth. I sit here fully expecting Werth to hit a walk-off dinger, but Ondrusek gets him to ground out to Phillips and we're headed for extra innings. Now hang on a couple and lemme see if Manuel leaves Lidge in...nope. Contreras is in there. Reds are gonna win this. Either Heisey or Phillips will get on base and Votto will drive him in. JK |
