Because it's just the TV stations visual representation of the
strike zone. It's pretty self explanatory.

They just look at the plate and paint their representation of the
strike zone above it on the screen. I don't think it's a secret
formula or anything. Probably just a computer model based
on the size of the plate.

The umpires have a better handle on the strike zone than this silly
gimmicky graphic. I have a better idea of the strike zone from the
center field camera. I wish they'd sh*t-can the whole thing, it's
annoyingly inaccurate.
