From: Shawn on 11 Jul 2010 18:26 it is weird how the reds either are all hitting or all in a slump at the same time. at least they are on the same page. but it is strange how they have great pitching and no hitting or great hitting and the pitchers are struggling. the reds pitchers were dominate in this series and they still lost all four games.
From: john smith on 11 Jul 2010 19:17 You can really make a case you got a well pitched game on almost every game of this road trip. After going 5-2 and riding into Philly playing well and then playing a Philadelphia team who was down some key players, you would have thought the worse case scenario would have been a split. The Thursday extra inning loss was acceptable. But if you told any Reds fan that in the next game you were going to be up 7-1 in the ninth inning and then the following two games your pitching staff was going to only allow one run in each game. Then you would wind up losing all three of following games. They would have screamed that's impossible. The Reds had plenty of opportunities in the last three games against Philly to score numerous times. They wasted opportunity after opportunity in not getting the clutch hit. The Reds left Hamels off the hook quite a few times today. Jay Bruce has been the biggest disappointment on this trip. If he had just come through WITH RUNNERS ON BASE maybe a couple of times, they would have had a split here and not be limping into the break. Well, the Cardinals don't play one game west of Houston in the second half while the Reds play a whole bunch of left coast games. So advantage Cardinals schedule wise in the second half. Guys like Rolen, Votto, Phillips and Gomes had relatively big first-halfs. It is highly doubtful they will have better second-halfs. So the pitching will have to step up big time. I can see the starting pitching doing well but when it comes to the back end of the bull-pen, it is going to be mighty tough. Chapman being a phenom reliever is the hope you must have if you are a Red's fan. All I can say is it will be an uphill climb. If they win the division, it won't be easy. They have wasted the opportunity for separation from the Cardinals. It would have sure been nice to have the Cardinals down a few more games considering the schedules each team will face after the break. One thing is for sure the Reds second half fate and their division hopes will be determined by playing the west coast teams, Rockies and the Brewers ......Time will tell......

From: john smith on 12 Jul 2010 09:42 No, the Brewers didn't move but they do play a whole boat load of games against them, hence they were included ALONG with The Rockies and The West Coast teams in what I feel will determine the Reds fate. I apologize if this sentiment wasn't portrayed clearly in the previous post. Looking back on the post I see how some people could have misinterpreted me saying the Brewers were a West Coast team but that was not the original intent of the previous post. I hope I have made myself clear in clearing up this important dilemma.
