Not that I doubt you Bob, because I don't. But
did he (Larkin) actually spit in Jack's face?

I think I vaguely remember "something" about that
but it somewhat escapes my mind. Just asking.

I am almost certain Danny was being figurative and that Larkin never
actually spit in McKeon's face. He and Griffey *did* leave the team
during the last game of Jack's final season with the Reds, though. I
thought that was bush league when it happened, even though I don't hold
the harsh feelings for Larkin generally that Danny does. The captain
thing, for example (and again, he didn't *literally* rip the C of his
jersey, I think he asked to have it removed) wasn't a big deal to
me...in fact, given the way the Reds were running at that time (the more
things change...), it was an understandable blow up.

Ron, I read and reread your post. Did you mean
Pinson played 37 seasons and he didn't retire
till 76? Surely I misunderstood or there was a typo,
just curious. {?}

Not Ron,

Pinson would have been 37 years old in 1976.
Pinson last played in September of 1975 for the Royals.
He didn't so much "retire" as much as he played so poorly that nobody
wanted him around anymore.

David explained it well. I used the phrase "37 year season"
rather than "he was 37 years old" to be consistent with the
age you see listed on baseball-reference. (which is age
at midnight, June 30)

As it happens,Pinson's birthday is in April so he wasn't
quite 37 when the season started (and nobody invited him
to camp). I'm about 99% confident that Pinson didn't
so much retire as run out of opportunities.
