It's a short list of guys who have made it to 3000. Made even shorter by the requirement to do it with one team. I think I can list them now... Clemente Kaline Biggio Gwynn Yount Brett Ripken Mays Wagner Yaz Musial Aaron Cobb Rose A couple of things.... When you parse this list, you can recognize the teams right away. I purposefully didn't put the team's in so you could see it. Parsed this way, Pete has by far the most hits for another team. Only a couple of these guys played for more than one franchise. Cobb, Musial, Wagner, Mays, Aaron. Rose was the only one that left as a decent player and then came back. He had nearly 1000 hits as a non-red. Nobody else comes close to that. How many of these guys are pre free-agent and how many are from the free agent era? I count 6 guys who could have left as free agents and 14 that were from the era of the reserve clause. Finally,....They were given a ton of grief over it, but I kind of understand why the Astro's kept Biggio around and on the field for his final tour. Loyalty is a two way street. dfs

Yeah,, I guess I knew that DiMaggio lost the war years, but I guess I didn't realize he only played 13 years. By the time I was old enough to be baseball "aware", he was just Mr. Coffee. Doubt that I even knew he was a ball player until much later.

Where have you gone, Wade. I often wonder if he regrets doing it in a Devil Ray uni. >One Brave....Aaron >One Oriole....Ripken I remember Murray looking odd in a dodger uni, but I don't remember him at all as a met or indian. Surprised me to find that he played over a third of his career in a different uni. >No Cubs.... > Another thing that struck me was what a wondering bunch of vagabonds the mets have been. Ed Kranepool's 5997 are the most PA in their history. They don't even have a "1500 hit" club. >It's kind of a fun game. That's funny because that's exactly what I did this morning and yeah it was kind of fun. Went to baseball-reference and decided to look up who the leaders were for each team. Did the yanks and immediately went to the reds, and when I saw Larkin among the leaders realized that this is harder than it looked. So I had a V8 moment and googled MLB 3000 hits and got the complete list and worked backwards instead from the ones I knew had more than one team.

You wouldn't really be Tyler Durden, would you? dfs

I admit that this flew soaringly over my head, and humble enough to admit that even a quick google hasn't helped other than that I now know where the name comes from, but I've not seen the movie or read the book. |
