Nah, just a Baker decision. The second he ran for Hanigan I knew who the pinch hitter was going to be. He burned Heisey as the runner, he couldn't then burn somebody else AND put Hernandez in to catch. That's not Dusty's way. Gotta save those bench guys as long as possible. Frankly, I don't think the reds would have had a much greater chance with Nix at the plate. Of course, Nix would probably have avoided a double play ball. The TV guys were certainly talking about the choice when the game ended on them and they couldn't really delve into it. dfs
From: john smith on 14 May 2010 23:04 Your biggest job as a manager at that point is staying out of the DP and prolonging the game. With first and third and two outs alotta things can happen. That old wild pitch ties up the game. You just can't pinch hit a slow guy at this point of the game. If he was so worried about saving bodies, he should have pinch ran Arroyo at first.......Getting a player like Cabrera up there who has been so clutch is a no brainer. He never got the chance to hit.....

This game has me so pissed off right now. I just thought back to last year and a pinch hit 10th inning homerun by Micah O. against St. Louis. I don't know if the pitcher was Franklin but jees Owens would have been a good choice here as well. The splits on Nix/Franklin were 4-16 and Hernandez/Franklin 3-21. I just can't understand Baker sometimes. Not too mention the lefty righty bullshit managers love so much... |
