I can't take watching this guy much more. It's Willy T redux with a
better glove and less contact. This guy has a terrible swing. When you
have more confidence in Mike Leake as a batter than you do your lead off
hitter, your in big trouble. He has run out of rope. Heisey your turn
now........

Strikeout percentages of selected 2010 Reds hitters (i.e., the percentage of
each player's plate appearances that end in a strikeout):

Stubbs 27.0%
Dickerson 42.2%
Votto 21.6%
Bruce 21.4%
Nix 24.3%
Gomes 23.3%
Phillips 13.6%
Rolen 12.5%

Oh...Willy Taveras in 2009 - 13.3 %

Just sayin'. :-)

Stubbs has struck out just four more times than Votto has, in 16 fewer
plate appearances.

Is there a leadoff man in baseball with more K'S than Stubbs? Comparing
strikeouts with other guys doesn't help this guy's futility. There are
serious holes in this guy's swing. Go back to basics. Leadoff men must
walk and make contact. Stubbs does neither. He has had about 25 games, I
have seen enough.

You expect sluggers and RBI men to have strikeout. Stubbs is neither.
Take away Stubb's homers and what is he sitting on one RBI. I don't
need RBIS, I need walks and singles in his spot. I didn't think anybody
could be worse than Taveras at lead off but Stubbs is doing just fine to
make his case here.

I stand by my prediction as biggest Reds bust this year, Stubbs.

There are a bunch of ugly swingers on this team. Even Votto is joining
in with some horrible looking swings this year. There is not one pure
hitter on this team. Each batter has his holes. Some more than others.
It is very hard to manufacture runs on this team. Believe it or not
Cabrera has been the best situational hitter on the team. I would take
my chances with him hitting two the rest of the way. The crime of it is,
he must hit six on this team because he has been very valuable in
driving in key runs. Ugly swing and all, he knows when to get the bat on
the ball..... Say what you want about his glove and he has been bad
range wise. However, take away his key hits this year and this team just
might be in a big hole now..

I just found it rather ironic that the other John is bitching about Stubbs'
strikeouts when the guy he wanted in there all along, Dickerson, was the worst
offender on the team in that regard, percentage-wise, before going on the DL,
and that Taveras, who he also mentioned in the OP, struck out less often
percentage-wise than either Stubbs or Dickerson has this year.

Not that I want to see Taveras back, or am even chomping at the bit to see
Dickerson come off the DL in another 4-6 weeks. It's just that Votto, Rolen,
Bruce, Hanigan, Janish, and Leake are the only guys on the roster who have
really carried their weight so far with the lumber - and Leake is a pitcher - so
I fail to see the point in singling out Stubbs when the fact is that most of the
roster isn't holding up its end of the bargain on offense.
