And yet officially, baseball is still considered America's passtime.
Sort of like Mary Pickford was considered "America's Sweetheart" even
though many other actresses in her own time and since could also be
considered a "sweetheart." It's more of a nickname than anything
else. So baseball remains "America's passtime."

It's a fake sport, just like all the others except for baseball.

Not be a spelling Nazi...correctly it should be pastime. But whatever. We
can certainly argue over the popularity of the two sports, and we do.
However...Baseball is, and will always be, America's national pastime IMO.
Football may well exceed in popularity by the shear volume of it on
television every weekend...both college and pro. Baseball however, is woven
into our lives all summer...nearly every day or night. They really are
somewhat uncomparable for those and other reasons.

Baseball is a summer sport...must be played in relatively fair weather.
Watching a game on a hot summer day is a leisurely laid back experience.

Football can be played in anything less than a hurricane or monsoon. While
football fans may be maniacal enough to still attend...I can't imagine even
the heartiest fan preferring watching in a blizzard. But football is not
ever "laid back".

Baseball can be played every day...twice a day even, when necessary.

Try to play two football games in a 48 hour period let alone 12.

A couple of things have made football more popular that baseball doesn't
have going for it...gambling...and television. Perfect for both. Football
just fits the bill ideally for TV. You have literally dozens of games
televised...mostly nationally...every week. Sure you can bet on any
sport...especially degenerate gamblers. But for casual gamblers, what sport
lends itself better...from office pools to football cards to bookmakers?
I'll bet (sorry) no sport is gambled on more.

Yeah. Football is the most popular today. Though I'm not sure entirely
about in New England. The Pats success may have taken it over the top, but
the Red Sox are kind of an exception I tend to believe. But certainly
nationwide there is not much question in my mind.

Baseball is however...and always will be our National Pastime. Just google
it if you don't believe ME. :-)

As opposed to a real sport like bowling? :)
