Its being reported on MLB also, so it looks like it did happen. The Reds will also be receiving a PTBNL, probably low-level filler. After the uncertainty and disappointment of the Cabrera signing (I have yet to see confirmation, he's still listed as available on the MLB tracker, but i'm sure its happened) this latest move by Jocketty alleviates some of my concerns. It also solves the 40-man roster mystery. According to the Oakland site, Taveras has already been DFA'd by the A's. Beanes not so stupid as to actually keep him around. So the A's receive Rosales and budget room in exchange for Miles and the PTBNL. You have to assume Miles will be heading Northeast with Dusty and co. in April, and this clears up the outfield situation a bit and may make it a bit easier for Heisey or Frazier to claim the job this spring. They took on Taveras who was due to be paid 4 million. Don't they still have to pay that? Jocketty unloaded 4.6 million in Taveras and Rosales, and used it to sign Cabrera (3 million) and Miles (1.7 million, the Cubs pay 1 of the 2.7). That's an upgrade at two spots for 100k. |
