Just heard Peter Gammons on the MLB network report that he had a
conversation with a guy in Reds management yesterday. Gammons said Lee
is the guy they really want...He said it would take Alonzo, Wood and
maybe a another prospect.

I believe Alonzo is back to playing first base full time in Louisville.
They say he caught everything when he played the outfield but it looks
like he just doesn't have the foot speed to be a major league
outfielder. So with Votto here, Alonzo is never going to see the light
of day in Cincy. So I am now aboard on this deal.

I wonder if the Reds could coax the Mariners into throwing League in?
Imagine bringing in Lee, Volquez and Chapman for the second half. You
would have to just say wow as a fan.

Then there is still Homer Bailey. What pleasant problems the Reds have
now that they have players and pitchers of quality to trade. Things
could get mighty interesting around here in the next two weeks......
Just don't tank this road trip..

I think the Reds still have too many question marks to make a trade
like this. That's gambling a lot of chips that this offense stays hot
all summer.

Regardless of how wise it is, I would love to see it happen :) With
Votto at first and plenty of rotation candidates, I won't miss either
Alonzo or Wood, and it sure would be nice to see Cincinnati make a big
move to win the division!

I was mistaken in my previous post to this thread, the club option in his
original contract with the Indians was for this year...he's in that option year
now. So this would be a half-year rental.

It also occurs to me that after next year when Lee hits the free agent market,
he's probably going to be a Type A, so the Reds would get a first round pick
from whoever ended up signing him - unless that team's pick is one of the first
15 picks in the first round, in which case the Reds would get a second round
pick instead - plus a supplemental pick no matter what.

So basically, the Reds would get a year and a half of Cliff Lee plus two draft
picks between number 16 and around 60.

Then there's the value on attendance. Make the playoffs this year, you probably
tack $4 million onto next year's payroll.

Anybody else get the feeling Wood is being auditioned tonight?

Alonso fine, I guess, but they don't get Wood much less anyone else
of consequence for a blatant rental who only plays ever 5 days..

We haven't had a LHer worth spit in a long time, so to me
6 years of Wood > 3 months Lee

Haren or another long termer, yes.
