From: tom dunne on 10 Apr 2010 15:16 If it's the seventh inning of a tie game, when a solo homer could easily be the winning run, and you have Laynce Nix and Jonny Gomes on your bench... why oh why oh why do you send up Miguel Cairo to hit for the pitcher? Micah Owings had as many homers last year as Cairo has hit in the last five seasons combined, and he's just riding the pine today after pitching last night. Dusty Baker... some days, it's like someone explained the game of baseball to him five minutes before the first pitch. On the other hand, good start by Harang. I hate to see the home run troubles continue, but 4 hits, no walks and 7K in 7 innings ain't bad.

Thanks Lou Pinella, who just showed what can happen when you send up a pinch hitter in a tie game who can actually hit a home run.

Two run shot by Fukudome in the fourth, solo shot by Soriano in the fifth. But it was perhaps the solo shot by Baker in the eighth off Rhodes that hurt the most. Harang, well...another quality start (seven innings, only three runs) but nothing to show for it. Really, I think he pitched as well as Zambrano did...better in some respects. He made two mistakes, both on breaking balls, Francisco took the golden sombrero, making a good case for himself to be the guy that gets sent down so they can put Leake on the roster. JK
