The "Killer Bs", remember them?

Bobby Bonilla, one of MLB's larger busts is just now coming into his
multi-million dollar contract. He retired in 2001.

Who made that decision, Bernie Madoff?

Here's the fully copy:

"It seemed like a good idea at the time. It seems pretty ridiculous now.

In 1999, the Mets were so desperate to get rid of troublesome and
underperforming outfielder Bobby Bonilla that they agreed to buy out the
last year of his contract for $5.9 million.

Except, to avoid having to fork over the money at the time, the Mets got
Bonilla to agree to take the money later, collecting interest on it at 8
percent until the Mets had to begin paying it back.

The result, as reported by the Wall Street Journal: Starting a year from
Thursday, the Mets will be paying Bonilla, who is 47 and retired in
2001, a salary of $1,193,248.20 per year for the next 25 years. Bonilla
will still be collecting a player's salary in 2035, when he would be 72
years old.

Total payout: $29,831,205. That's in addition to the $5.9 million they
paid him in 1999. What did they get for their money? In Bonilla's second
stint with the Mets he played 60 games and batted .160.

That means the Mets will end up paying nearly $1.9 million for each of
the 19 hits he got. There have been some outrageous contracts, but $1.9
million per hit might cap them all"

The Mets are losing 10 mil/year and are 700 mil in debt. And, yes, Bernie
Madoff had something to with it.

So you could say Madoff "made off" with the Mets money

That is a knee-slapper.
