Here's a little tidbit off information on Damon:
Damon still a free agent; retiring?
"Is a nearly nonexistent list of suitors going to drive Johnny Damon
into retirement? Perhaps, according to The Record of Bergen County,
N.J., which wrote: "A friend of Damon's recently said, 'Johnny is
completely in the family mode right now' and has considered that
option" of retirement. But the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's David
O'Brien reports via Twitter that he has been told "by someone who
knows Damon well" that retirement is not being considered. Damon was
reportedly seeking $13 million a year -- the same he made with the
Yankees each of the past four years -- but has found very few suitors
on the open market, especially at that price. As for his former club,
it has been reported that the Yankees have only $2 million to spend on
a left fielder."
-------------
I fully expect Cabrera, Smoltz (if he doesn't retire or wait till mid-
season to sign with somebody), Bradford, and Martinez (see Smoltz) to
be on major league rosters before the regular season begins.

Damon is delusional if he expects close to that money. He should be in the
same market as guys like Cameron and be happy with half of that 13M.

Cabrera kind of surprises me. I wonder if he too is pricing himself out of
the market.

It was actually a 1 year deal for $3MM, with a $3 million mutual
option in 2011 (so, if they go for the buyout in 2011, he will make
$4MM total by next year)
----

"Reds signed shortstop Orlando Cabrera to a one-year, $3 million
contract.
In a clever bit of accounting, Cincinatti paid for roughly half of
Cabrera's salary by dumping Willy Taveras' corpse on Oakland and
taking the negligible utilityman talent dropoff from Adam Rosales to
Aaron Miles. Cabrera's deal also contains a $3 million mutual option
for 2011 with a $1 million buyout. He will start at shortstop and
probably bat second for the Reds, providing a nice upgrade over Paul
Janish. Cabrera, 35, batted .284/.316/.389 last season with nine home
runs and 77 RBI in 656 at-bats between the A's and Twins."
