That is a trick question because I think Cashman got lucky that George
got sick and nobody noticed until he was able to put his plans into
action. At one point Cashman was considering a move the Mets. You can
add Cashman AND Watson to my list of executives I want in the Mets front
office.

Say again? I didn't really understand this when they sited this
reasoning. Mike Cameron hasn't hit Bay's average numbers in his best
year. Unless you think the defense is all the difference, there is no
way I'd classify Cameron with Jason Bay. This might have been a good
move for Boston, but not just based on the baseball merits of those two
players.

Everywhere Gillick goes, he finds talent. BTW - I agree that Minaya
might just have reached a burn out position. As for defending him, I
just don't believe he's that stupid. I think he has been a decent GM. I
just can't stratch off anyone who lands Maine, Perez, Santana, and
manages to sign Beltran as a baseball idiot. Whatever crappy development
they've had, they have parleyed the system into decent players. Its
still not an excuse for the lack of development and the flaw in the
scouting over the last 2 seasons.

3 years ago everyone here was praising him like a god. Now everyone
thinks he's a bum. Is it fair? No, but that's baseball fans for you. I
don't think he's a god or a bum. If I need someone to wheel and deal my
assets, Minaya is great. But if I need someone to develop my farm
system, scout and draft...and even manage his executive personnel..Minaya
comes up short.

I agree. Especially the way the ownership is handling this. There are NO
SHORT LEASHES, IMO. If someone is on a short leesh, just LET HIM GO.
