I'm underwhelmed. Capps is not closer material, but neither was Rauch.
Capps has already blown 4 saves in 30 chances this season, and they
were against Baltimore (at Wash), Houston (2 BS in the same series in
Houston), and Cincinnati (at Wash). This may actually be a downgrade
at closer position. At best it is a lateral move.

ERA WHIP BAA
Rauch 3.05 1.36 .283 21 saves in 25 opportunities
Capps 2.74 1.30 .274 26 saves in 30 opportunities

I think it's a short-sighted trade. Make a move for making a move's
sake.

While it's not near a blockbuster trade, or anything of the like, I am
happy with it. I believe it's more beneficial that Rauch is back to the
set up man, and Capps closing. I don't know, I'm neither thrilled or
unhappy about it.

I think it was Smith seeing the value of Ramos dropping and dropping
and being worried that soon he wouldn't even bring that much in
return.

Even if you don't see Capps as a big upgrade over Rausch, it adds
bullpen depth, which ain't a bad thing when Slowey throws 110 pitches
in 5 innings. Now you can go Crain-Guerrier-Rausch-Capps, and throw in
Mijares where needed. It makes up for the loss of Duensing from the
pen.

Well, Capps looked pretty good in his first save situation last night.
