Playoff teams are usually stacked 1-5 and their six hitter is no slouch. They at least have a prime guy hitting lead-off and hitting fourth. The Reds have neither. Batting Phillips second is like putting a band-aid on a gun wound. Phillips has rarely shown the bat control or the unselfishness it takes to be a good #2 hitter. Of course a lot of offensive problems could be masked by great starting pitcher. One decent effort from Harang does not solve all the Reds problems. The only encouraging signs on this team right now are Bruce and Hannigan. Baby steps and one game at a time is all we have right now..... |
