opening day update:

Votto
Phillips
Cabrera
Rolen
Gomes
Stubbs
Bruce
Hernandez

Hanigan
Miles

those guys are locks

which leaves:

Dickerson or Nix as the platoon guy for LF and/or CF
Balentien or Frazier or Heisey or Nix as the 5th infielder
Janish or Sutton or Frazier or Cairo

for the last 2 or 3 spots.

Assuming healthy of course

Not too many mysteries now

I'd have to believe this is the end of the road for Balentien in a
Reds uni if he doesnt hit this spring.

Just got back from Niagara Falls, checked the newsgroup, read the web. Although
we now know it's a MLB deal, I didn't see any numbers after reading to the end
of the thread, so I'll add now that ESPN's Jerry Crasnick is reporting it's one
year at $800,000 with a $1.75 million club option for next year. Potential
$500,000 more in performance bonuses this year: $50,000 each for 250, 300 and
350 plate appearances; $100,000 each for 400 and 450; and $150,000 for 500.

OTOH, if he's outrighted, his minor league salary would be $100,000.

The 2011 option would carry a $50,000 buyout if he has 200 plate appearances
this year, $100,000 if he has 250 plate appearances, $150,000 for 300 and
$200,000 for 350. If the option isn't exercised, he gets an unconditional
release. If the option is exercised, he could earn $750,000 in performance
bonuses in 2011: $50,000 each for 250, 300 and 350 plate appearances; $100,000
each for 400 and 450; and $200,000 each for 500 and 550.

Or at least, thus sayeth Crasnick. The beat writers haven't quoted any numbers
in anything I've read yet that they've written on the subject.
