We were actually 20-14 at one point last year and in first place, however, this team looks more like it has staying power. The main thing is that they can't afford an injury to any key players like Votto, Rolen, Bruce or Masset. I do have worries about the depth, especially in the infield. I think our next 15 games or so are against below .500 teams, so it's time to pick up some wins. Keep the foot on the accelerator.

You mean when they were in first place for one day?

You mean when they were in first place for one day? Do you really not know? The 2006 Reds were the Central's first place team for half of the month of June, and they were tied for first in late August. That was the year of the Kearns/Wagner/Lopez trade, when they were in it until that awful 1-9 stretch entering September. That's the best team we've had in the last nine years, I thought any Reds fan here would remember it.

When I said the fans of Cincinnati waited long for this, I was not referring to first place so much as I was referring to just having a real contending team. A team that maybe able to stick around into September. All you can ask for as a fan is to be in contention in September. We will find out a lot about this club when they start Interleague play, something that hasn't been too friendly to them in past history. The other killer to this team has been their trips to "death valley," the West Coast. If this team can just play around .500 on these excursions they will be fine. Tanking is not an option this year when it comes to Interleague play and the West Coast trips.. |
