From: Kommienezuspadt on 20 Feb 2010 20:12 Gomes is close to signing a minor league deal with the Reds -- but he's taking a last look around for a different deal. I like what he brought to the plate last year -- but I don't he think he is what pushes the team into the playoffs -- I do think he deserves a job somewhere though. Part of me wishes they were trying for a one year deal with Damon because I'm not convinced there is a good choice for LF on the roster for 2010.

How would signing Damon change that? dfs

I'm being snarky. The intertube says Damon went for 8 million. While his OBP would have been a good thing for this team and the park would have kept the illusion of power, I'm not convinced that 8 million for Damon would be better than letting the 8 midgets duke it out and then playing the hot hand this year instead of sending him to AAA. Yeah, Dusty. I'm looking at you. dfs

Last I had seen was he was looking at 4 million offers --which seems like a logical number for the Reds & the LF position / #1 hitter. But I never held much hope of getting him here for a year --- Now -- would he have been enough to move them up in the standings? I guess we'll not know that but I like to think he would have been an OBP improvement over Cabrera at the #2 spot or Stubbs in the #1 spot which I'm guessing is what we're going to see unless Dusty writes the catcher in the #2 hole because he can handle bat & won't clog the bases or some other such nonsense. __________ Information from ESET NOD32 Antivirus, version of virus signature database 4883 (20100220) __________ The message was checked by ESET NOD32 Antivirus. http://www.eset.com

Would you mind looking at those and then telling me who was the outfielder with the hot hand who got sent to AAA? >Yeah, Dusty. I'm looking at you. Inquiry: How come nobody was saying "I'm looking at you, Jerry Narron" when Jay Bruce stayed in the minors while guys like Dewayne Wise, Jason Ellison and Buck Coats stunk up the Reds' outfield? JK |
