From: tom dunne on 18 Jul 2010 15:11 That's two straight games where Travis Wood has pitched great and the offense hasn't scored a single run for him. How can a guy make four starts with a 2.00 ERA and not get a single win? Taking a zero against Roy Halladay is forgivable, but facing Aaron Cook in GABP? If I had the hair to spare, I'd rip it out.

A pitcher's W-L record is the worst statistic in baseball since a win or loss is more dependent on a team's run scored than his ERA due to differences in team's bullpens. A pitcher can't win a shutout if his team doesn't score a run. In the worst case, Harvey Haddix didn't deserve to get stuck with an L when he pitched 12 consecutive perfect innings for Pirates against Milwaukee but the Pirates couldn't score either before Milwaukee scored in the 13th. <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harvey_Haddix> Of course, I've never felt a pitcher should get a W if he allows 5 or more runs but his team outscores the opposition. -- Remove blown from email address to reply.

Hey, Bruce provides air conditioning for the people in the expensive seats. They paid for the privilege of getting it. -- Remove blown from email address to reply. |
