Not sure if I even know if I can spell his name. Do we keep him next
year? or do we use the cash for other purposes? Or do we try to
promote from within? Happy Turkey Day all ...82 days before Pitchers
and Catchers report!

Hell no Cordero must go but won't. The Reds were the only idiots to give
this guy a huge contract. Nobody wants Cordero at his salary. You might
be able to unload him in July to a contender but I doubt any other team
bites during the winter...

Happy Gobble Gobble Chuck....

Happy Thanksgiving right back at ya! Although technically it's Friday already as
I'm typing this. :)

For whatever it is worth, I don't think it makes sense to have a fire sale in
the winter and I don't think that's what they plan to do.

For one thing, they just re-signed Ramon Hernandez. If they were trying to save
money, they could easily have started Ryan Hanigan at catcher and signed a cheap
backup off the scrap heap.

I also don't see any point in trading for Scott Rolen in the middle of the 2009
season when they were already out of contention unless it is with the intention
of trying to contend in the division in 2010.

So, I think we will see them hold onto guys like Cordero over the winter in
order to have as many horses as they can for a run at the division. If they
aren't contending come June and July, that's when I think we might see a fire
sale where veteran guys like Cordero might go. That would also include Arroyo,
Harang, Rolen, and anybody else who is costing serious money and who a
contending team might be interested in.

The Braves just picked up Billy Wagner, who's a few years older than
Cordero and coming off a injury, for about 7 mil/per for 1 and perhaps
2 years. Perhaps the Reds could have traded Cordero to the Braves for
A-ball roster filler. I would be fine with the Reds picking up 6 mil
of his contract for each of his last 2 years. Frees up 6 mil each year
for more pressing needs. This assumes the Braves would go along with
this. They probably made a good gamble with Wagner.

Cordero's agent was on XM's MLB channel yesterday and stated that
Cordero is aware of the Reds wanting to trade him, but they haven't
heard from Jocketty about possible destinations.

Anyone catch Bowden on the channel - he's articulate and pretty good
at it - even if you can't help but laugh when he's talking about how you
don't lie to other GMs.
