He's just a younger version of cabrera. Cant hit more than singles either.

You can't play them anywhere where fielding really matters and they don't hit enough to play anywhere else. You might as well bring up Jorge Cantu and Cody Ross while you're at it. .....Ross would have been a nice option to Ryan Freel all those years ago. dfs
From: john smith on 14 May 2010 14:52 Jeff Keppinger was player of the month in August of 2007 and then started off 2008 like house on fire. In the middle of May he fouled a ball off his knee and fractured his patella. He then hit .240 the rest of the way probably because he came back to soon and was playing hurt. Not a dreadful season. Mr. Keppinger is a player who doesn't strike out that much and has never made more than 415 k per year. He is a hard nosed player that is more than an adequate SS. Keppinger is a perfect fit as a number 2 hitter. I would much rather have him at SS than Cabrera and his salary. I don't think Drew Sutton will ever be a MLB player. Just another bonehead move by Red's management. With the money they spent because of the Taveras signing and trade along with the Keppinger trade salary ramifications, they could have gotten a decent left fielder and had Keppinger at SS batting second. Little moves matter, especially a couple of little moves that have cost this team about 8 million in salary this year. Having said all that, even if Keppinger wasn't starting now, he sure would have been a nice utility player and a great insurance policy if any infielder went down.

I had to go look up Keppinger's numbers because I haven't heard anything about him this year. What's the big deal that you would want him back? He and Cabrera have about the same batting average, and while Keppinger has a few more walks, he's not adding anything else. Cabrera has three homers and four steals to Keppinger's no homers and one steal. He's cheaper, but that's about it, and OCab's salary isn't enough to get a good left fielder.

Keppinger is hitting .270/.330/.360. Punch & Judy with no range. What's the use? |
