Oswalt is expensive, but available. Maybe some package including Homer and Stubbs? Wouldn't solve the Leake problem, other than fortifying the rest of the rotation making him less critical later. With cost saving alone, those two might be enough. And just having him NOT throwing against us means we don't lose to him as a bonus. >Getting Janish some innings? The Janish thing was half-kidding, although he has thrown in blowouts before I think. Outside of Rhodes and Coco, who are good but old, do you really see something in any of the other guys that make protecting them a higher priority than protecting Leake?
From: john smith on 14 May 2010 13:06 I wouldn't trade Bailey for an old guy like Oswalt. The only pressing need the Reds have right now is a leadoff hitter. If Angel Pagan becomes available in June when Beltran comes back, the Reds should jump all over him. I would consider everybody except Leake and Votto tradable if things ever went south this year. But that hasn't happened as of yet. Tom, I can't believe you don't have the MLB package. You really should consider getting it if this team can get to 10 games over .500 any time soon. We shall see....

IMO thats just insane, even before you get to payroll impact. > > >Getting Janish some innings? > > The Janish thing was half-kidding, although he has thrown in blowouts > before I think. The point is that there wont be any reason at all for Leake to be on the mound overextending himself. There are plenty of capable guys in the pen who can replace him in the 7th without a large dropoff in effectiveness. I havent seen any indication at all that the Reds are going to pile innings onto his arm. I really dont see anything to worry about, especially this idea that - oh no we might make the playoffs and he'll be called on to start a couple extra games! - . I hope to god that that happens and i bet my life that Mike leake does too. > > Leake's present and future > any of our reliever's present or future > Chapman's future > any of our reliever's present or future > > If I'm burning somebody out, it's a fungible reliever every time, not > possible anchors of the rotation for the next 5 years. The point was that nobody should be getting worn out at all if the staff pitches to the general level that it should. There are 6-7 guys in the pen. |
