From: David Short on 20 May 2010 11:22 Well, it is 40 games exactly and this post looks different than the 20 game post. A 15-6 stretch makes you feel pretty good. Instead of getting swept by the pirates, they did the sweeping and then brought out the brooms for Houston and the Brewers as well. That's what good teams do, they beat up on bad teams. They lost a series to the cards, but they won another one from the cards as well as besting the mets and the cubs. A 15-6 stretch is a good thing. I don't have seasonal splits, but Joey Votto, Scott Rolen and Jonny Gomes have been electric. Jay Bruce has had an encouraging stretch as well, spraying the ball to all fields and improving his pitch recognition noticeably. He looks no where near as lost as he did when I made the 20 game post. Ryan Hanigan is having the kind of season that gets you a major league career and, in 20 at bats Chris Heisey has been on fire since replacing Chris Dickerson. The starting pitching was supposed to be the strength. Last time everybody but Leake had an ERA north of 5.5. Only Aaron Harang is still north of that now, and he's actually pitched decently over the last 20 games, going into the 6th for all four starts and never really getting knocked out. Back to back shutouts from Cueto and Bailey help everybody but the bullpen who are now complainging that they aren't getting enough work. Masset has a terrible ERA, but he's pitched well. Cordero racks up the saves, but they are all ....interesting. The bullpen was percieved to be a strength of this team and we have not seen that yet. Still, A 15-6 stretch is a good thing. The fielding is better. I think Orlando Cabreara needs replaced, but he's coming up "big in the clutch" and is being given credit for the reds "aggressive but smart" approach on the basepaths. Even the much maligned Jonny Gomes got involved starting a relay through to seal a dramatic win. Laynce Nix.....was mysteriously unavailable when the team needed him and most of the time he's been available, he's been terrible. I really think when/if Dickerson gets off the DL, the release Nix. still.....15-6 is nice. dfs

By the way, where's Kevin? No longer a fan?
From: john smith on 20 May 2010 14:24 I don't think they will send Stubbs down but I like the idea of Heisey getting two weeks of starts and seeing if he can take off. He takes more pitches than Stubbs and is worth a roll of the dice.
